An Accompanying Spouse’s Guide to

Finding a Job in International Development

In addition to my career as a senior advisor in global health, I’m married to a U.S. Foreign Service Specialist. We have two little kids that we cart around the world with us.

We’ve lived in six countries in the past 20 years.

(We’re all a bit older these days.)

Based on my experience landing a new job in a new country every two to three years, I wrote a guide on how to find a job in international development as an accompanying spouse.

Drawing from my own experience, with contributions by accompanying spouses from all over the world, the guide will help you:

  • Identify your transferable skills

  • Update your CV

  • Research your future post

  • Find job opportunities

  • Network strategically

  • Prepare your job application

  • Interview with confidence

  • Negotiate your compensation package, and

  • Navigate tricky employment situations unique to accompanying spouses.
